URBAN SURVIVOR MASTER CLASS PROGRAM

 

TRAINING, EXAMINATION AND INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION IN:

  • PADI Freediver Certification

 

EXCURSIONS:

  • Aliwal Shoal (freediving)

  • Tugela Valley (Agricultural work, Fire side chats with traditional healers, Community Service, Foraging and camping at Natural Hot Springs)

  • Day trips to a variety of venues in KZN

 

ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND IN-HOUSE CERTIFICATION:

  • Advanced Medical Emergency Service; Self sufficient emergencies (like child birth)

  • Swim Instruction Training

 

HEALTH AND FITNESS:

  • Regular Personal Fitness Assessments by qualified personal trainer

  • Daily Training in a variety of disciplines (e.g. Swimming, Cross fit, Yoga, Pilates and Running) as well as extreme sports (e.g. Self-defense, Lifeguarding, Paintball, Surfing and SUPing). The focus is on discovering and developing new skills rather than showmanship of existing talents.

  • Mental training (Effort, Grit, Resilience, Determination and Stamina)

  • Travel to, and Entry into, various Sports Competitions, Tournaments and events (e.g.: Midmar Mile, Trail runs, Adventure and Obstacle Races)

  • Studies in Nutrition, Personal Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle (e.g.: Time- and Stress-Management)

  • Plant to Plate (hands-on vegetable planting, composting, organic pest control, harvesting and preparation)

  • Cooking Courses (Indoor & Outdoor, Individual & Bulk, with & without Recipes, Artisan Bread-Making, Catering and Budgeting)

 

SOFT SKILLS:

  • Psychological Support by a professional counseling psychologist (via Workshops, Guided Meditations, Journalling and Daily Reflections) helping students find purpose and direction in life.

  • Fundamental principles of being a Better Person (Etiquette, Kindness, Integrity, Honesty, Dependability, Self-awareness, Responsibility, Accountability, Positive Thinking, Creativity, Innovation, Coping with Change, Self-correction and taking Criticism)

  • Leadership and Teamwork: Different styles, characteristics, advantages and approaches to leadership, Principe’s of Humility, Strategic Planning, Solution-orientated Thinking, Communication Skills, Critical Thinking and Collaborative Teamwork.

  • Career and life management (Identifying and developing a passion into a Career, diving into short and long term options, and research around how best to invest the Seed Capital (R10,000 pp upon Course completion for investment in a business or further studies).

 

LAND ADVENTURES:

INTRODUCTION, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED TUITION IN:

  • Flow arts (Poi Spinning, Fire-Staff, Dancing, Singing and Drumming)

  • Arts and crafts (Drawing, Painting and Artistic Expression using different Mediums and Materials)

OCEAN ADVENTURES:

INTRODUCTION, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED TUITION IN:

  • Free Diving with, marine life in the open ocean (whales, dolphins, turtles and sharks)

  • Fishing and Foraging e.g.: (Crayfishing, Prawning, Musseling and Lagoon, Shore or Deep-sea Fishing)

 

 

PERSONAL AND BUSINESS STUDIES:

MINIMAL THEORY AND MAXIMUM EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN OUR HIGH STAKES BUSINESS GAME COVERING:

  • Personal financial Management (Tax Registration, Income Returns, VAT, Accounting, Invoice Generation, Banking, Credit and the use of Spreadsheets to manage budgets and cash flow)

  • Entrepreneurial, business and Legal (Entrepreneurial workshops, Business plans, HR, Recruitment, Marketing, Finance, SWOT, PR, Dispute Resolution and Letters of Demand)

  • Hospitality Business and Event Managing (Tourism, Event Planning, Project Management, Wine Tasting, Debating, Public speaking, MC’ing and Presentations).

  • Agriculture Hands on exposure to a range of farming practices including animal husbandry (hunting, game, crocodile, bees and snake farming) and crop production (banana, sugar-cane, cannabis, tea tree and macadamia farms)

  • Fireside chats from inspirational people who have made career out of following their passion. The focus will be on careers in sports, adventure and travel. Speakers will include Kinglsey Hollgate, Professional athletes, tour guides and experts in the working international travel adventures (TEFLA, International Yachts and Camp Counselors and aupairs)

 

 

REAL AFRICAN BUSH EXPERIENCES IN:

  • Foraging and Wilderness Bush Craft (How to Survive in the Wild and Live Off-the-Grid)

  • Bee-keeping (Understanding, Building, Managing, Robbing and Maintaining Hives and Keeping Bees)

  • Snake Handling (myths, biology, behaviour, identification and catching of snakes; treatment of bites)

  • Birds, Trees and Plants (Species identification and Studies)

 

 

HUMANITARIAN WORK:

PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HANDICAPPED

  • Participation in a variety of philanthropic projects – Learn-To-Swim classes

 

TECHNICAL WORKSHOPS:

INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT & SKILLS WITH PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS:

  • Workshop Best Practice (Layout, Safety, Housekeeping)

  • Welding (Safety, Joints, Machines, Faults, Tools, Materials and Types – MIG, TIG, Stick and Gas)

  • Knife-Making (Handcraft a knife using the ancient art of Blacksmithing)

  • Sewing & Tooling (Industrial and Domestic Machines, Repairs, Hand-Sewing and Leatherwork)

  • Plumbing (Installation, Maintenance, Trouble shooting & Working with Copper and Plastic piping)

  • Building (Introduction to Drawing, Measuring, Cost Estimations, Planning and Bricklaying)

  • Carpentry (Reading plans, Marking Out, Use of Hand and Power Tools to complete a project)

  • Electrics (Installing Plugs, Fuses, Lights & Sockets; Maintaining & Trouble Shooting 220V &12V Wiring)
